MicroThoughts

Woods clearly has his flaws, but I do like the fact that for over a decade, one of America's most celebrated icons is someone who represents a considerable span of the ethnic and spiritual spectrum of the nation.
- On Smallville, Lois Lane chased down a lead on possible union-busters. The anti-corporatist premise calls back to early Superman stories, in which Superman was a working class hero. And the pro-union implication is rare in pop culture these days.
- With the Olympics, it's bizarre to see Vancouver as Vancouver. The city is often called the Marilyn Monroe of Canadian cities, which this week seems more fitting than ever. Like a case of Hollywood looks inflation, Vancouver is more beautiful than most of the cities it's been called upon to play!
- The pope approved sainthood for a Canadian, Brother Andre. The Catholic church has an entire division devoted to investigating potential saints. Among other things, it has to verify that the candidate has performed two miracles. The first was the miraculous healing of a cancer sufferer. But the Vatican hasn't released details about the second miracle. I wonder: What is the secret miracle?
