A few days ago, I was telling
kadymae about this fascinating article about David Tran, the Vietnam immigrant who created sriracha hot sauce.
The equally fascinating McIlhenny family of Tabasco sauce fame was mentioned in the article. I was impressed that McIlhenny's was still a family-run business after six generations.
kadymae told me other interesting things about the family, such as their interests in oil and salt. (Here's a 2007 NYT article about the family business.)
Today,
kendallmckenna linked to the sad news that the current McIlhenny CEO, Paul, had died on Saturday. Add to the list of interesting McIlhenny trivia: Paul was a marine who survived a samurai sword blow to the head, and the helmet to prove it is in the National WWII Museum in New Orleans.
