Over the past year, I devoted a lot of time to researching, writing and re-writing (and subjecting [livejournal.com profile] wolfenm, [livejournal.com profile] kadymae and [livejournal.com profile] librarygorilla to draft upon draft of beta reads -- they were incredibly patient, constructive and generous!) a paper on Supernatural for the web-based journal, Transformative Works and Cultures. The paper is called Supernatural Bodies: Writing Subjugation and Resistance onto Sam and Dean Winchester, and it's out now (note: spoilers for Season 5 and the fan fic "The Bright Lights of Disturbia"):

I'm chuffed that my piece is part of an amazing list of essays that covers everything from how the show and the fans use folklore in their stories, to how darker fanfic became more prevalent as the show took on darker plots, to the overlap between Supernatural's creators and its fans. I can't wait to read them all! Meanwhile, here's an interview that OTW did with the issue's guest editor, Catherine Tosenberger, who explains the reasons for the special focus on Supernatural:

Also out today, the Supernatural Talk about SPN 5.12: Swap Meat at Sequential Tart:

And finally -- some might say shockingly -- I've updated my website:
