More good stuff
- the redneck werewolf has a prejudice against vampires
- self-hate all around, but not too much wallowing in it
- ghost-fiance-bff triangle: by softening the fiance, and making Bridget Sally's bff, instead of a skanky rival, the adaptation avoids the misogyny of the original
Aidan and Rebecca's folie a deux tendencies remind me of Tanya Huff's vampire universe, in a way. In the Blood Ties series, vampires do not live in the same cities because they are highly predatory and require a huge hunting ground.
In Being Human, the vampires do live in the same place, but under the watchful, regulartory eye of a massive bureaucracy headed by Bishop. The vampire power structure controls behaviour: they even have blood brothels to keep ensure a sustainable level of available prey. Aidan's attempt to go it alone, and to have Rebecca follow his path, is proving to be extremely difficult, especially as they can spiral downward together if neither of them is in complete control of their urges.
