Okay, it was a crappy game, but the point is, Spain won!
Also, my man, Diego Forlan, won the Golden Ball for being the tournament's MVP. (Hot, talented and humble, from this ESPN report.) The award looks like a, um, gold ball, much like the Golden Boot for the highest scorer is, indeed, a Golden Boot. I like how soccer is so obvious like that!
Anyway, to celebrate, here's the Ole! song by a guy who is close to Dean Winchester and his buddy:

Date: 2010-07-12 04:39 am (UTC)No, Spain has been playing only as good as they have to -- not in an arrogant way, but they just never get too far ahead because their strategy is to lay back and wait until the opposition makes a mistake. Unfortunately, the Netherlands can play that game as well, so NOTHING HAPPENED in the first 90 minutes of play. The commentator had two choice things to say during regulation time:
"A display of the best of European football is not what we have here."
and
"Here's another chilling statistic: neither of these teams have scored in extra time." (That would have meant another 30 minutes of nothing followed by a shoot-out.)
Luckily, both sides came to play in extra time. A goal was scored 5 minutes before the end of extra time, which seemed very decisive because it wasn't likely that the Dutch would have been able to score with so little time left.
